Privacy Policy

Who we are

Civil War Cycling is a privately owned website hosted by I.T. professionals. Our website address is: https://www.civilwarcycling.com. Our hope is that you will read the following privacy policy and have this expectation confirmed: Civil War Cycling respects your privacy.

Financial transactions are brokered by PayPal

When you purchase a product from civilwarcycling.com, you are choosing to be directed over a secure connection to PayPal services on PayPal servers. From PayPal web screens, you can choose to cancel or abort the transaction according to standard e-commerce mechanisms.

If you decide to make a purchase, only PayPal will have access to credit card, debit card, or PayPal account information that you provide using PayPal screens. For your security, PayPal will not share this information with Civil War Cycling or Sue Thibodeau. Your financial information is protected by PayPal, which securely brokers the electronic interaction with your bank. After your financial transaction is complete, Sue Thibodeau’s Civil War Cycling business (not a website) will receive only the following information: your name and e-mail address, the amount that you paid, for what product, and on what date.

What personal data we may collect and why

E-Mail Address (if you provide it)

If you want to receive periodic updates about new website content or Civil War Cycling sales, you may opt-in to our newsletter subscription service. To subscribe to e-mail updates (an optional service), you must supply a valid e-mail address.  None of your information will be shared or sold. You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of every e-mail newsletter.

Our e-mail service is GDPR-compliant and automated through MailChimp.

If you want to purchase a downloadable product from our website, you must provide an email address so that we can email you the product download link. The email will come from client@e-junkie.com, which is the email component of the software that runs our download service.

Quiz Answers and Results (temporary and anonymous)

This website offers visitors the opportunity to take history quizzes. Quiz results are not saved. No personally identifying information is saved. Some quizzes provide the option of emailing your results to you at the end. If you provide an email, your results will be sent to the address that you provide, and after having been sent, will not be saved or used for other purposes.

Visitor Comments (if you comment)

This site does not collect or retain visitor comments for any purpose other than to read them. Your comments will never be sold.

In addition to capturing any comments that you may post, this site runs security software that may check and record your IP address and browser user agent string. These actions help to block spam and other unauthorized system access. Malicious agents may be blocked permanently by IP address, but lacking that, your IP address is not retained in our website logs or databases.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to check if you are using that service. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, if you offer a profile picture using Gravatar, your profile picture will be displayed alongside your public comment.

Beyond these considerations, this website does not and cannot capture any personally identifying information other than what you voluntarily share by filling out optional web forms.

Visitor Cookies (limited use)

This site uses cookies only for your convenience in re-populating forms. Cookies are not used for marketing or advertising.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

System Admin Cookies

You can skip this section if you are not a Civil War Cycling system administrator.

To protect the security of this website, cookies are used to monitor attempts to log in to the website.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Media (not applicable)

This website does not accept media uploads from visitors.

Tip: If you upload images to other websites, you should avoid uploading images that contain embedded location data (EXIF GPS). This is because website visitors can download and extract the location data.

Embedded content from other websites (not applicable)

Articles on this site do not include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.).

Tip: Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics (barely anything)

Who we share your data with

Google Analytics is installed on this website for the purpose of tracking and reporting on website traffic in general. This website’s administrators cannot see which specific IP addresses are viewing what specific pages. Your personal identity is not known.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata may be retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

If you subscribe to Civil War Cycling’s e-mail notification service, your e-mail will be retained until you unsubscribe.

This website does not support user registration. If this feature is ever activated, the visitor may supply personal information that will be stored in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

If you want your e-mail address deleted from Civil War Cycling’s e-mail subscription service, click the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of any Civil War Cycling subscription e-mail.

Where we send your data

When visitor commenting is enabled, comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

No other personally identifying information is shared with any third-party.
