Learn History Like a Kid on a Bike

American history isn’t just a list of dry facts—it’s a story best experienced on the move. There’s nothing quite like exploring a national military park by bicycle. Like a kid on a bike, you’re free to wander winding roads, climb gentle hills, coast through valleys, and stop at your own pace to read monuments and wayside exhibits.

About Me

Hi, I’m Sue—founder of Civil War Cycling. After retiring from the corporate world in 2014, I set out to combine my passions for history, writing, and cycling. Today, I design and publish practical travel guides and maps for bicycling America’s Civil War battlefield parks. I’m the author, photographer, and webmaster behind this site.

What This Site Offers

Civil War Cycling is a place to explore tips, maps, stories, and photos—plus historical insights that bring battlefield landscapes to life for cyclists.

For history buffs, this site features a growing collection of scholarly resources, including linked indexes to officer reports in the Official Records and also to Orders of Battle, which list the commanders and unit structures of opposing armies. (Currently, the site has indexes only for the Battle of Gettysburg.)

Whether you’re planning your first visit or your fiftieth, you’ll find something here to enrich your ride. If you are not sure where to start, please consider starting here.
