Description
GNMP Route 2 Map for a 10.5-mile historic bike tour of Gettysburg National Military Park.
“Battle Day 1 Loop”. Formatted for download as a PDF document (not part of a GPS system).
DETAILS
Pick this route if you have a special interest in Gettysburg battlefield events for July 1, 1863, and want only to ride in the northern half of the battlefield. Note: A significant part of your ride will be on town roads—or bumpy sidewalks—that can be difficult to navigate.
Route 2 (Battle Day 1 Loop) features a 10.5-mile historic ride through Seminary Ridge, McPherson’s Ridge, Oak Hill, Barlow’s Knoll, Coster Avenue, and the eastern slope of Culp’s Hill. With time for rest and stops to enjoy the monumented landscape, most bicyclists will complete this route in about 3-4 hours. Route 2 is a subset of Route 1 (Full Day Loop), so there is no need to have both maps.
This map is an optional digital companion to the much larger 286-page paperback guidebook by Sue Thibodeau, Bicycling Gettysburg National Battlefield: The Cyclist’s Civil War Travel Guide (Victor, NY: Civil War Cycling, 2019). ISBN 978-1-7326038-0-6. Available on Amazon (paid link).
