GNMP Route 6-7 Maps for two 2.4-mile historic bike tours of Culp’s Hill, Gettysburg National Military Park.
“Culp’s Hill Lower & Upper Loops”. Formatted for download as a PDF document (not part of a GPS system).
Pick this route if you have a special interest in Gettysburg’s Culp’s Hill area, can handle a few steep hills on park pavement, and do not have time for Route 8 (Culp’s Hill Double Loop, which includes a spectacular ride down Confederate positions on East Confederate Avenue). For a broader historical tour, Route 3 or Route 3b might be a better option, since they include part of Culp’s Hill.
Route 6 is a quick warm-up loop that will take about 45 minutes; it covers the western slope of Culp’s Hill. In all likelihood, you will not want this to be your only ride for the day, but if can only do one loop through Culp’s Hill, consider Route 7 instead.
Route 7 is mostly uphill and steep, but it offers a thrilling downhill ride from the summit of Culp’s Hill. Plan for 1-2 hours, including stops and breaks.
If you want only one route through Culp’s Hill, Route 8 is recommended, and the only reason to purchase Routes 6 & 7 is to enjoy its “bonus” images.
This map set is an optional digital companion to the much larger 286-page paperback guidebook by Sue Thibodeau, Bicycling Gettysburg National Battlefield: The Cyclist’s Civil War Travel Guide (Victor, NY: Civil War Cycling, 2019). ISBN 978-1-7326038-0-6. Available on Amazon (paid link).
