Civil War Cycling’s C&O Canal maps are unique in several ways. First, they are designed to help cyclists to minimize backtracking; avoid lengthy rides on public roads; and anticipate that some rural roads near the canal are incredibly steep. Route options are outlined in pro/con format. Second, the routes are tailored to accommodate the differing needs of the northbound versus the southbound canal towpath cyclist. And finally, historical summaries and photos make the materials useful for an educational tour.
